Sponsored games, yay or nay?


As it stands only games deemed 'the best of the best' are allowed to be hosted here on Angle Spire.

It was a nice idea back when there were 10,000 games being produced a day, but things have changed since this place first opened up. These days you're lucky enough to find a game being produced once every three months.

So... bend or break time...

Do we keep Angel Spire's game hosting an elitist treasure trove of rare gems? Or do we open up the game designing doors to anyone and their grandma?

Im not sure exactly how elitist our hosting is but anyroad we shouldnt be taking in absolutely shite games. We have a reputation that of hosting great games, dont lets destroy that.

And what would you people say if we kept the whole 'sponsorship' thing, but also allowed anyone to have their game hosted.

The sponsored games will still have their 'hall of fame spotlight' but this way it will encourage everyone else to keep working on their games without telling them that their game isn't good enough, which is what the sponsorship seems to say in my mind.


Just think of this as any game store would do: All the really hot games are up on a shiny window/shelf display, everything else is in a bargain bin open for rummaging. What say you peeps?

I've always wanted to open up the site to more games than just the ones we arbitrarily choose as 'the best.' I've just never been sent any.

As it stands, I've actually got a subdomain under works that will still show off our 'sponsored games,' but it's not yet completed. I was planning on using the mainsite to show everyone's games, with a special section dedicated to the good ones, like what Greeny was suggesting.

Alright, my honest opinion. I think we should open the doors but keep a special section for the few that are completely sponsored, hence sponsored because they are the gems and the best of the best. As for everything else. The game development community is only suffering because not a lot of people know how to use the system they are working with to the best it's limit let alone run there own website. Now-a-days it's getting hard to find high quality websites to post your games on. SO I feel that we should give it a chance... Get the gaming community back in these empty walls and really get the electricity flowing again. That's all this place is missing! Games, it only feels dead because no one is developing anymore and I'm sure that is why a lot of people left, Mad, ... Unless they are back.... Correct me if I'm wrong, but you get the idea. We all came here with a dream and an earning for support from fellow developers... With out that, this is just another forum. Minus the people here, and my friends... That's how I feel...

Might I add that a lot of people only work on RPG's, and there's nothing wrong with that but there are a lot of other kinds of games out there... I'd like to see more customized games personally. That's what I look for when I'm rummaging through peoples games online...

Actually I know the reasons why Mad and left, and lack of games was not it. (Personal reasons I'm not allowed to talk about.) But I get what you're saying.

Yeah Mad, and I were really close and he told me a little a bit about what was going on... But How do you feel about what I suggested... I used to be a reviewer here and one of the members, like not quite an administrator but just underneath... so... Hmm. not sure why I brought that up...
