The Song of Elegin Developed by: Madriel222

Overview "A field burns; a plague spreads; a dragon preys upon a village. All the pains of our world concentrated in the perpetual hatred of a single entity. He never sleeps; he never eats; he instead lies deep within the bowels of the world, playing a perncious nocturne, an overture in dedication to sorrow and destruction. And as we cry out of hopelessness, or scream in agony, his instruments become louder, the lyrics more pronounced. We cannot protect ourselves from the dirge of malevolence, and so we pray to the angels for salvation. These, my dear friend, are the songs of Elegin. I can only hope that your soul is hard of hearing."

THE STORY:
This demo has a well thought out story, events and actions all have a purpose and no event seems to happen simply to advance the plot. This is a rarity on most games and aspiring makers should look to this game as a source of learning, as well as a well made game. As Oroth, you have left the order that has been your home, as it is too small to continue functioning. With your friend Berundd, you set off to the mainland. I will not continue to sumarize, because that would take away from the overall game; somthing I would hate to do for a game of this calibur. Allow me to say however, that the demo will make you anticipate the full games release more than ever.

THE GRAPHICS:
What can I say? Madriel is a great mapper; and his skill shows thruout the demo. Lush tropics, beautiful sunsets, detailed buildings, mysterious forests, realistic towns...The Song of Elegin has them all, and completes them all well. I myself have learned a thing or two about landscapes in games by playing, and those who do not feel mapping is their strong point will surely pick up a thing or two in this area of game creation.

GAMEPLAY,AND EVENTS:
Now, as much as I am not a fan of random encounters, the battle system in The Song of Elegin is just fun enough to make me cope with them. The battle system is not fully custom, but it is customized enough to be called a "CBS" in my book. Madriel has added several features to the battle system, giving it a better feel and better overall functionality. The Custom Menu System is also quite well done, another feature most great games fall shot on. I know I've said this quite a lot, but new event artists looking to bend and expand the boundries of RM2K3 should look to this game to see how to do it with a professional result.

CONCLUSION:
So, what is there to say? Only this: The Song of Elegin is a masterpiece in the making, good for both the average person, looking for a great game; as well as the aspiring game creator, searching for new knowledge in RPGmaking. I highly suggest you find a download, either from here once the mainsite is up, or from RMXPU, PXG, VC. You will not be dissapointed.

I GIVE THE SONG OF ELEGIN A.....

4.5/5!
